Double Barrel Shock
Mountain Bike's 2006 Product of the Year
INTENSE M6
Free yourself from the limits of shock performance.
Cane Creek's Double Barrel, developed with ÷hlins' Twin Tube technology, is the only shock that offers true 4-way independent external adjustment.
Because each adjustment contributes independently to shock response, with no nagging crossover effects, the Double Barrel is always working for you with superior damping for all conditions.
Advanced Technology
All-Speed Damping: The ultimate performance edge.
4-Way Independent Adjustment: Independent control of high and low speed compression and rebound. Adjust on the trail using common hand tools. Fast. Easy. Intuitive.
Twin Tube Technology: Unique in the industry, this Ohlins breakthrough totally isolates the rebound and compression circuits.
Hand Built: Built by hand in the USA. Titanium or steel spring. Perfectly matched to your weight, frame design and leverage ratio.
Ohlins Racing: Cane Creek's partner in developing the Double Barrel, Ohlins is the premier builder of high performance suspension systems for elite motorsports teams.
Video: Chris Herndon puts the Double Barrel to the test.

Reviews
ì...it has the ability to take suspension control to a level never seen before in mountain biking.î

"While this bike [a Morewood Shova LT] came with a lot of high-zoot products, the standout is the Double Barrel shock, which offers tremendous control and gives the rear suspension excellent performance.

Performance Edge
Maybe you donít want to take our word for it. No problem: the Double Barrelís technology proves itself. Take it down your favorite course. Thatís when youíll notice your wheels maintaining better contact with the trail, because big hit recovery time is quicker. Youíll notice better control jumping off ledges, because the valving handles that too. There are also some things you wonít find, like pedal bobbing, bucking, or squirrely handling.
With multiple external adjustment possibilities, the Double Barrel meets the damping requirements of most long-travel suspension bikes and suits a wide range of riding styles. And during your ride when conditions change, the Double Barrel is willing and able to meet the challenge. Two hex adjusters (high speed compression and rebound) and two bleed screw adjusters (low speed compression and rebound) provide on-the-trail control.
You donít ride the same course every time, day after day. You need a shock that can be adjusted on the trail. As conditions change, so can the Double Barrel.
Other shocks: a compromise at best
In contrast to the Double Barrel's breakthrough Twin Tube design, most rear shocks use an older, De Carbon design. They function well if tuned and adjusted properly. Unfortunately, this can be difficult since their external adjusters are limited in their range. On these shocks the rebound bleed valve works primarily on low speed damping and therefore has little effect on high speed movement.
Also, De Carbon external shock adjusters have little effect because they dampen only a small percentage of the oil in the reservoir ó only the oil displaced by the piston shaft. Some designs will try to increase the effect by using larger piston shafts, but this has a negative effect on the pressure balance and performance of the shock overall. So, to achieve the best characteristics with these designs, the shock must be disassembled and revalved for each specific application ó not an easy task, and definitely not practical on the trail. Or you can buy separate shocks, but again, not practical while riding, and buying all those special-purpose shocks is costly.
